Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah carried out a series of high-stakes inspections on Sunday, visiting two of Karachi's most critical infrastructure sites: the BRT Red Line mixed traffic corridor and the Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway. Demanding immediate results, the CM issued strict orders to remove all bottlenecks and accelerate construction on a "war footing" to alleviate the prolonged inconvenience faced by commuters
BRT Red Line: Three-Month Restoration Window
During his fourth visit to the Red Line site in a single week, the Chief Minister inspected key segments stretching from Dawood University to Numaish and Mosmiyat. Concerned by the ongoing disruption to citizens, he set a firm three-month deadline for visible improvements in traffic management, drainage, and road restoration.
-
Mixed-Traffic Lanes: While subgrade work from Numaish to Mosmiyat is complete, the CM ordered additional night shifts to finalize drainage.
-
Critical Deadlines: Flyover and U-turn projects near UK Apartments and Mumtaz Manzil must be completed within one month.
-
Infrastructure Progress: Relocation of major water pipelines is nearly complete, with approximately 63% of work finished on the primary MS water line.
Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway: June 30 Deadline
The CM also reviewed the 38-kilometer Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway, which connects the Jam Sadiq Interchange to the M-9 Kathore Interchange. Project directors confirmed the expressway has reached 93% physical completion and is expected to be fully operational by June 30, 2026.
"Providing safer and better mobility to citizens is our government's priority," CM Murad stated, emphasizing that no compromise on construction quality or transparency would be tolerated
Collaborative Action
Accompanying the CM were Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and top officials from utility providers including K-Electric and SSGC. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) briefed the delegation that emergency construction activities have been mobilized across all project components to meet the CM's rigorous new timelines.
