The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved 37 commercial and residential projects in Islamabad during 2026, covering a combined area of 6,690,580 square feet, as part of its efforts to facilitate construction, investment and planned urban development in the federal capital.
The approvals were granted by the CDA’s Building and Housing Control Wing through the Design Vetting Committee (DVC). During seven meetings held in 2026, the committee reviewed 42 commercial projects located within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), of which 37 were approved.
The approved developments comprise a diverse range of projects, including commercial buildings, apartment complexes, mixed-use developments, office units and hostel facilities. The approvals also include five mosques and one school building, reflecting the need for supporting community and educational facilities alongside commercial and residential development.
Major Details of Approved Projects
The 37 approved projects collectively include:
- 721 commercial shops
- 1,981 residential flats
- 362 office units
- 5 mosques
- 1 school building
- 6.69 million square feet of total covered area
The CDA said the latest approvals demonstrate its commitment to supporting the construction industry, encouraging investment and promoting professional development practices in Islamabad.
CDA Moves to Streamline Building Approvals
The authority is also working to simplify and streamline procedures related to the approval of building plans, issuance of completion certificates and other regulatory approvals in the housing and construction sector.
According to the CDA, these measures are intended to make the approval process more efficient and facilitate investors, developers and construction stakeholders without compromising public safety.
The authority said all building and development activities will continue to be regulated in accordance with the ICT Building Control Regulations 2023, which provide the framework for ensuring safety, security and compliance in construction projects across Islamabad.
The growing number of project approvals reflects continued development activity in the capital and is expected to support real estate investment, construction activity, employment and urban expansion while maintaining regulatory standards for sustainable development.
