Apple is expanding its presence in the smart home market with the launch of new connected devices, led by the HomeView, an iPad-like smart home hub featuring a 7-inch display and an AI-powered Siri assistant. Priced at $299, the device is scheduled to begin shipping next month and will allow users to manage smart home features, including doorbells, thermostats and smart locks.
The launch represents Apple's latest effort to compete with established rivals such as Amazon and Google, as well as emerging artificial intelligence companies exploring new hardware products. The company hopes its upgraded Siri assistant will make everyday household tasks easier through voice commands, personalized features and improved integration across connected devices.
Alongside HomeView, Apple introduced updates to its HomePod smart speakers and Apple TV devices, as well as smart home accessories developed in collaboration with LG and Schneider Electric. The new products are designed to simplify device setup and improve connectivity throughout the home.
However, Apple faces challenges, including strong competition, the relatively high prices of its products, and questions about Siri's ability to deliver advanced AI features. The company must also address compatibility across third-party devices and growing concerns about the security and privacy of connected home technology.
HomeView will not be available in the European Union because of the current unavailability of Siri AI in the region. Despite these challenges, Apple aims to strengthen its smart home ecosystem and increase revenue from services such as Apple TV and iCloud, positioning its latest devices as part of a broader strategy to drive future growth.
