Capital Development Authority (CDA) concludes 2025 with 18 completed projects, pivoting toward a two-year plan for city-wide beautification.
On the final day of 2025, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi formally opened the Shaheen Chowk underpass for traffic, signaling the end of a high-speed year for Islamabad’s infrastructure. The project serves as the symbolic finish line for the city's 2025 development calendar, which saw the delivery of five major road networks and 13 smaller urban initiatives.
2025: Resolving the Traffic Crisis
The past twelve months have focused heavily on decongesting Islamabad’s busiest arteries. Key completions celebrated during the inauguration include:
- The Big Five: Serena Interchange, Murree Road Underpass, F-8 Interchange, T Chowk Flyover, and Shaheen Chowk.
- Economic Support: The launch of the Business Facilitation Centre and comprehensive upgrades to Park Road.
2026-2027: The "Vision 2027" Roadmap
Minister Naqvi unveiled that 2026 will transition from heavy construction to the Vision 2027 programme—a two-year strategic plan to modernize the capital’s aesthetics and public services.
Key Objectives for the New Year:
- Green Revolution: A city-wide overhaul of parks and a massive reforestation drive to restore Islamabad’s natural canopy.
- Infrastructure Completion: Prioritizing the long-awaited Islamabad jail project and secondary road link-ups.
- Institutional Reform: Further streamlining the CDA to improve public service delivery and maintenance.
While the Prime Minister is expected to conduct a formal ceremonial inauguration later, the Minister authorized the early opening to alleviate New Year's Eve traffic and celebrate the CDA's milestone year.
