Rawalpindi Rolls Out 45 Electric Buses

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated a new electric bus service in Rawalpindi, launching 45 electric buses in the initial phase of a planned 80-bus fleet.

Service Details and Amenities:

The new fleet, which is fully air-conditioned, offers modern amenities aimed at improving the commuting experience:

  • Technology: Free Wi-Fi and mobile charging ports.

  • Accessibility: Wheelchair access and dedicated sections for women.

  • Fares: The standard fare is Rs 20.

  • Free Travel: Women, the elderly, and children with special needs will ride for free.

Operational Routes:

The buses will operate on four routes across the city:

  1. Saddar to Qabristan Chowk (7 km) using seven buses.

  2. Fawara Chowk to Koral Chowk (11.3 km) using eight buses.

  3. Saddar Metro Bus Station to Munawar Colony using seven buses.

  4. Marrir Metro Bus Station to Motorway Chowk (13.1 km) using 14 buses.

The Regional Transport Authority noted that Kutchery Chowk is currently excluded due to ongoing remodeling work.

Broader Infrastructure Goal

CM Maryam Nawaz framed the initiative as part of a broader commitment to improve public services and infrastructure across Punjab, which includes upgrading roads, hospitals, and educational facilities. She also stated that crime in Punjab has dropped by 70 percent.
