The ambitious Islamabad IT Park project is significantly advancing, with physical construction currently 71% complete. Funded by a highly concessional $76.3 million loan from South Korea, the facility is on track for completion by December 31, 2025, and is expected to generate an estimated 10,000 new job opportunities.
According to a Ministry of IT official, the park is a cornerstone of the government's 'Digital Pakistan' vision. It aims to fundamentally strengthen Pakistan's IT ecosystem by promoting technology transfer, boosting R&D, fostering tech commercialization, and tightly linking industry and academia. The ultimate goal is to enhance the country's IT exports and global competitiveness.
Designed to international standards, the facility is a 12-story building spanning nearly 67,000 square meters. It will initially provide dedicated office space for approximately 120 start-ups and small to medium enterprises (SMEs). The hub will also feature testing laboratories, classrooms, an industry-academia linkage center, and an auditorium, making it a comprehensive center for innovation.
The successful progress of the Islamabad IT Park, along with a similar project in Karachi, reflects growing international confidence—specifically from South Korea—in Pakistan’s tech sector. Despite initial headwinds, including heavy rains, import restrictions, and economic pressures, the project has remained within its budget, utilizing the core Korean loan and an additional $12.5 million from the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
Once operational, the IT Park is set to be a national hub for innovation, investment, and employment, substantially advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation efforts.
