ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has unveiled a new artificial intelligence-based application designed to curb human smuggling and improve the immigration process at airports.
The app's pilot project is scheduled to launch soon at the Islamabad airport. The announcement came during a high-level meeting at the FIA headquarters, led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The meeting focused on the ongoing efforts to modernize the agency.
Minister Naqvi was briefed on the app's features, which are intended to simplify immigration procedures and better detect human trafficking attempts. He lauded the initiative, stating it was a crucial step forward. "This initiative will not only help stop human trafficking but also save passengers from the hassle of waiting in long queues for hours," he said.
To support this modernization, the minister directed that immediate funds be provided to the FIA for upgrading its IT infrastructure. He also ordered an urgent renovation of the FIA headquarters and instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to promptly hand over land for the new FIA Academy.
Recognizing the issue of staff shortages, Naqvi called for immediate recruitment for all vacant positions and promised that all necessary resources would be provided, emphasizing that improved performance must accompany these new resources.
FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar informed the minister that key amendments to the FIA Act have been completed and that the agency is prioritizing digitization. He noted that the organization has successfully transitioned to an e-office system, and all new FIA notices will now be issued with QR codes for enhanced security and efficiency.
