Balochistan launches Pink Bus Service to boost safe travel for women

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has inaugurated the province’s first Pink Bus Service in Quetta, describing it as a significant move toward ensuring safe and dignified public transport for women. He said the initiative builds on earlier steps such as the Pink Scooties scheme and reflects the government’s wider commitment to women’s empowerment.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, CM Bugti lauded the performance of women deputy commissioners in different districts, saying their work demonstrates that women can handle key administrative roles as effectively as men. He added that the Pink Bus Service, together with scholarships and other development programmes, is intended to create more opportunities for women across all sectors.

The chief minister also criticised what he called “extremist elements” for trying to misguide Baloch women and steer them toward destructive activities, stressing that the government instead wants them to pursue education, progress, and global opportunities. He further announced that the Green Bus Service will be extended to Pishin, Mastung and Turbat, and that the provincial government is working on introducing electric buses to improve public transport and cut environmental pollution.
