In a major shift toward technology-driven policing, the Murree Police have officially launched the “Safe Tourism App.” Developed in line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a digital Pakistan, the platform aims to replace traditional methods with a streamlined, high-tech experience for visitors.
A "Virtual Guide" in Your Pocket
District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer, described the application as a 24/7 Virtual Tourist Guide that meets international digital standards. The app serves as a centralized hub, integrating real-time data from several key departments:
-
Emergency Services: Direct links to Police and Rescue 1122.
-
Travel Logistics: Live updates from Traffic Police, Motorway Police, and the Meteorological Department.
-
Local Governance: Coordination with the District Administration.
Key Features for a Safer Journey
The app introduces several innovative tools designed to assist travelers from arrival to departure:
-
AI Chatbot: An artificial intelligence-powered assistant provides instant answers regarding road conditions, navigation, and the best tourist routes.
-
Virtual Women Police Station: A dedicated feature prioritizing the safety and security of female travelers and families.
-
Smart Directory: A GPS-enabled list of verified hotels, hospitals, vehicle workshops, and recreational spots.
-
Direct Accountability: The “Text to DPO” feature allows users to report complaints or emergencies directly to the DPO via WhatsApp.
“This initiative seeks to safeguard Murree’s tradition of hospitality through modern technology,” stated Dr. Tanveer.
Travel Tip
Authorities are urging all domestic and international tourists to download the app from the Google Play Store before starting their journey. Having the app pre-installed ensures access to live weather alerts and verified locations, even in areas with fluctuating signal strength.
