Apna Ghar Programme Surpasses Rs100 Billion in Loans

Pakistan’s affordable housing initiative has achieved a major milestone, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Apna Ghar Programme surpassing Rs100 billion in housing loan disbursements within six months of its launch. According to figures shared by Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Schehzad on X, banks had disbursed Rs104 billion through 17,697 home loans as of October 30, 2026.

The programme has received 220,715 applications from prospective homebuyers across the country. Of these, 90,405 applications have been approved, representing total financing commitments of Rs533 billion and an overall approval rate of approximately 41 percent.

Housing finance has recorded significant growth since June 2026. Loan disbursements increased by 404 percent, rising from Rs21 billion to Rs104 billion by the end of October. Meanwhile, approved financing grew by 269 percent, climbing from Rs144 billion to Rs533 billion during the same period.

Launched in April 2026, the Apna Ghar Programme aims to make homeownership more accessible for low- and middle-income families. Supported by a government allocation of Rs3.2 trillion, the five-year initiative targets financing for the construction of 500,000 homes across Pakistan.

The Ministry of Finance acknowledged the contributions of the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Banks’ Association, participating commercial banks and the Ministry of Housing and Works in implementing the initiative. The government considers the programme an important step towards promoting affordable housing finance, financial inclusion and construction-sector growth.

The rising number of loan disbursements is expected to support housing demand and create additional economic opportunities for construction companies, contractors and building material suppliers. However, with fewer than half of the submitted applications approved so far, prospective applicants are encouraged to ensure their income records and property documentation are complete to facilitate the approval process.
