The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has notified the Telecommunication Equipment Standards Regulations, 2024, making compliance with prescribed technical standards mandatory for telecom equipment manufactured, imported, or deployed in Pakistan.
The regulations were officially notified through the Gazette of Pakistan under S.R.O. 1110(I)/2026 following approval by the federal government, the PTA said in a statement.
Issued under Section 28 of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996, the new framework applies to all PTA licensees, manufacturers, and importers of telecommunication equipment.
Under the regulations, telecom equipment must comply with applicable technical requirements, including Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Radio Frequency (RF), health and safety standards, and other prescribed specifications.
The PTA has also made a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) mandatory before telecom equipment can be imported, deployed, or placed into operational use in Pakistan.
The regulations were developed following consultations with telecom importers, licensees, manufacturers, vendors, and other industry stakeholders.
According to the PTA, the new regulatory framework is aimed at promoting global compatibility and interoperability, improving telecom service standards, encouraging local manufacturing, and supporting economic growth.
The authority said the regulations will further strengthen Pakistan’s telecommunications ecosystem, enhance equipment compliance, and facilitate technological advancement across the sector.
