PM Mandates Accelerated Development for Key Gwadar Infrastructure Projects

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives for the immediate acceleration of high-priority development initiatives in Gwadar. Emphasizing the city’s pivotal role in national growth, the Prime Minister highlighted that the advancement of Pakistan is intrinsically tied to the stability and progress of Balochistan.

Prioritizing Connectivity and Essential Services

In a recent update shared on social media, the Prime Minister confirmed that he has ordered the swift completion of several critical projects designed to uplift the coastal city:

  • Educational and Transport Infrastructure: Construction work on the Gwadar University and the international-standard Gwadar Airport is to be fast-tracked to enhance regional connectivity and human capital development.

  • Public Utilities: A seawater desalination plant is currently under development with Chinese assistance, aiming to resolve long-standing clean drinking water shortages for local residents.

Expanding Industrial and Agricultural Footprint

During his visit to the region, the Prime Minister also marked the groundbreaking of the desalination plant and highlighted a series of new initiatives aimed at diversifying Gwadar’s economy. These projects include:

  • An industrial and agricultural park.

  • A state-of-the-art expo center.

  • New manufacturing facilities, including a fertilizer plant and a lubricant production plant.

The federal government is currently working in close coordination with the provincial administration and local stakeholders to ensure these projects remain on track. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that ongoing investment in Gwadar’s infrastructure is vital for creating economic opportunities and ensuring that the local community has access to essential basic facilities.
