The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced a plan to commercialize six major roads to accommodate the city’s expanding urban and commercial activities. A public hearing was held at the LDA Sports Complex in Johar Town where officials briefed citizens about the proposed commercialization and its environmental impact.
The roads targeted for commercialization are Sabzazar Liaquat Chowk to Multan Road, College Road from Ghazi Chowk to UET Roundabout, Defence Road from Bhubtian Chowk to Kahna, GT Road from Quaid-i-Azam Interchange to BRB Canal, LOS Road from Ferozepur Road to Multan Road, and Barki Road from Ring Road to BRB Canal.
LDA officials emphasized the importance of creating formally designated business corridors to meet Lahore’s growing commercial demands. During the hearing, public queries were addressed, and authorities assured that citizen feedback would be reviewed and included where possible. Concurrently, under the guidance of LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, enforcement teams conducted operations in Johar Town to remove illegal constructions and encroachments as part of ongoing urban management efforts.
This initiative aims to support sustainable urban development and streamline commercial activities on major city roads, reflecting Lahore’s rapid urbanization and increasing economic activities.
