The federal government has unveiled plans to construct two new underpasses and establish four Emergency 1122 service centres in Islamabad as part of a broader initiative to modernize the capital's infrastructure, improve traffic flow, and strengthen emergency response services.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, to review the progress of key development projects and future infrastructure initiatives across the federal capital.
During the meeting, the interior minister directed the CDA to begin construction of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass and the Faisal Mosque Underpass next month. The projects are aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving road connectivity, and enhancing urban mobility in Islamabad.
Mr. Naqvi also ordered the immediate establishment of a fully operational Emergency 1122 system in Islamabad, stating that the absence of an efficient emergency response service in the capital was unacceptable. He instructed officials to complete all legal and administrative requirements promptly so construction of four new emergency service centres could begin without delay.
The meeting further reviewed proposals to improve the CDA's financial sustainability through permanent revenue-generation measures. The interior minister directed officials to accelerate initiatives that would strengthen the authority's long-term financial independence and operational efficiency.
In addition, Mr. Naqvi instructed the CDA to complete the Islamabad Expressway Service Road Project within the approved timeline and emphasized the timely completion of all ongoing development schemes. Officials also briefed the meeting on the progress of major infrastructure projects and future urban development plans aimed at transforming Islamabad into a modern, well-connected, and efficiently managed capital city.
The new underpasses, Emergency 1122 centres, and ongoing infrastructure projects are expected to improve traffic management, enhance public safety, and support Islamabad's long-term urban development strategy.
