Individuals Hold Nearly Half of Pakistan's Bank Deposits

A new report reveals that ordinary Pakistanis now hold almost half of the country's total bank deposits. This highlights the crucial role of households and individuals in Pakistan's financial system.

According to data from the State Bank of Pakistan, total deposits reached Rs. 33.8 trillion as of August 2025. Of this impressive sum, 49.4%—or more than Rs. 16 trillion—was held by individuals, including salaried workers, self-employed professionals, students, and housewives.

In comparison, the private business sector contributed 20.3% of the total deposits, followed by federal and provincial government deposits at 15.2%. The remaining deposits came from non-residents and other miscellaneous categories. This data clearly shows that the savings and financial activities of individual citizens form the backbone of Pakistan's banking sector.
