The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) has proposed a comprehensive remodelling and traffic management plan for Canal Road from Abdullahpur Chowk to Gatwala to improve traffic flow, connectivity and road safety.
The proposal was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Faisalabad Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, who said the project aims to provide safer, smoother and more convenient travel facilities to citizens. The plan was prepared by FDA engineers following a detailed technical and traffic engineering study.
Key Features of the Canal Road Remodelling Plan
Under the proposed plan, the FDA will construct two new bridges and two additional U-turns on both sides of Canal Road. The plan also includes removing 10 unnecessary ramps and constructing four new ramps to improve connectivity between Canal Road and its service roads.
The proposed improvements are also aimed at strengthening the connection between Samundri Road and Canal Expressway while streamlining access points along the major route.
Traffic Management and Road Safety
The remodelling project is designed to address increasing traffic pressure on Canal Road and improve the movement of vehicles along one of Faisalabad’s key road corridors. Authorities will also assess traffic management requirements as part of the proposed improvements.
The meeting was attended by FDA Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhry, Director Development Asif Chauhan, Chief Traffic Officer Nasir Javed, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Usman Ghani, Assistant Commissioner General Atiya Inayat, and representatives from other relevant departments.
The proposed Canal Road remodelling plan will be reviewed in coordination with the concerned departments before implementation. Once completed, the planned infrastructure and traffic management measures are expected to improve connectivity, reduce congestion and enhance road safety for commuters across Faisalabad.
