CBD Punjab Announces Major Expansion in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan Next in Line

Following the high-octane investor interest in its flagship Lahore project, the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA) has revealed ambitious plans to scale its model across the province’s largest urban centers.

In a recent interview, CBD Punjab CEO Imran Amin confirmed that feasibility studies are currently underway to establish modern commercial hubs in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan. The long-term vision also includes extending the "CBD footprint" to Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Bahawalpur, effectively decentralizing economic growth away from the provincial capital.

From Blueprint to Groundbreaking

While the expansion is in the planning phase, the Lahore CBD has already transitioned into active execution. Key projects including Route 47, CBD Walk, and the CBD Arena are currently under construction. Amin highlighted that the authority is collaborating with international master planners to ensure these districts meet global standards for infrastructure and investment appeal.

The primary goals for the new districts include:

  • Centralizing economic activity to boost local productivity.

  • Attracting foreign and domestic investment through modern commercial zones.

  • Creating sustainable urban nodes to ease the burden on existing city centers.

Tailoring Growth to Local Strengths

Urban planning experts are optimistic but emphasize that a "one-size-fits-all" approach won't work. Dr. Nasir Javed, former CEO of the Punjab Urban Unit, suggests that each CBD must be customized to the specific economic identity of its host city:

  • Faisalabad: Focusing on textile-related services and manufacturing.

  • Rawalpindi: Leveraging its proximity to the capital for technology and back-office services.

  • Multan: Centering on logistics and advanced agri-processing.

"The success of these districts depends on more than just high-rise buildings," Dr. Javed noted. "They require efficient transport integration, regulatory clarity, and a focus on transit-oriented development."

The Road Ahead

The expansion plan is currently in the early strategic phase. Detailed feasibility assessments will soon determine the timelines and investment structures for each city. If successful, this network of CBDs could fundamentally reshape Punjab’s economic landscape, creating a more balanced and competitive investment environment for the future.
