Applicants under Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme in Vehari are facing months-long delays in receiving the first instalment of their approved housing loans, despite completing verification and other required formalities.
Several beneficiaries said they applied online for government-backed housing loans of up to Rs1.5 million to construct their homes under the programme launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. According to the applicants, their loan applications were approved about a month after submission and subsequently forwarded to Akhuwat, NRSP and other organisations for further processing.
The applicants said representatives of the organisations visited their plots to complete the verification process. They were also required to submit two guarantee cheques worth Rs1.5 million each, while their plots were pledged as part of the loan procedure. Following completion of these requirements, the housing loans were approved.
Beneficiaries also said bank accounts were opened at the Bank of Punjab’s Vehari branch to facilitate the disbursement of the approved funds. However, they claim that applicants whose cases were approved between January and June 30, 2026, are still waiting for their first loan instalments.
The affected families have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene and expedite the release of the approved housing loan payments. They said construction cannot begin until the funds are transferred.
Representatives of Akhuwat and NRSP reportedly said that their organisations had completed the required verification, pledged the applicants’ plots and obtained the guarantee cheques before approving the Rs1.5 million housing loans. They added that the payments can be released once the Punjab government transfers the approved funds into the beneficiaries’ accounts.
Timely disbursement of approved housing loans remains crucial for families relying on the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme to begin construction and achieve their goal of owning a home.
