The Canteen Stores Department (CSD) is one of Pakistan’s oldest and most extensive state-owned retail chains, operating under the Ministry of Defence and managed by the Pakistan Army. Established in 1913 during British rule and restructured post-independence, CSD has grown into a national retail network providing essential and lifestyle goods at subsidized prices.

• Operates over 110 modern retail outlets across Pakistan, primarily in cantonment areas and military-administered zones.
• Stores are located in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, and other strategic cities and remote regions.

Welfare-Oriented Purpose

• Originally established to support the welfare of Armed Forces personnel.
• Offers discounted pricing and rebates (5%) for serving and retired military members.
• Introduced hire purchase schemes in 1974 to make big-ticket items accessible through monthly installments.
• Now also serves civilian customers, promoting affordability and accessibility across diverse communities.

• CSD operates under a fully government-owned, non-commercial model.
• Divided into six regional zones for administrative efficiency:
  • Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, and Multan.
