The Athletes's Foot

Founded in 1971 in Pittsburgh by David and Michael Lando, TAF was the first U.S. athletic footwear specialty store. It began franchising in 1972, expanding internationally by 1976 with its first outlet in Adelaide, Australia

The U.S. franchised model survived after company-owned stores were closed during Chapter 11 in 2004, leaving the brand with hundreds of independent franchise stores. Ownership subsequently passed from Intersport International (2012) to Arklyz Group (2021).
