Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) officials have briefed Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin on progress under the provincial government’s Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat initiative, with more than 89,000 applications received through the programme’s online portal.
The briefing took place during a PHATA Governing Body meeting that reviewed the agency’s annual performance, future targets and ongoing housing projects. Officials also updated the minister on the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme and the provision of free plots to eligible citizens under the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar initiative.
The governing body approved the expansion of the Affordable Housing Programme on PHATA-owned land, while Yasin directed officials to strengthen enforcement of housing regulations and accelerate action against illegal housing schemes.
The minister also called for strict action against developers involved in fraudulent file sales and warned that housing schemes approved on green areas could contribute to environmental problems. He stressed that effective regulation and enforcement are essential to ensure safe, affordable and legally compliant housing for Punjab’s citizens.
