The government has approved a Rs0.5194 per unit increase in electricity tariffs, adding an estimated Rs12.6 billion burden on power consumers. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will recover the quarterly adjustment over three months—September, October and November 2026.
The tariff increase will apply to most consumer categories, excluding lifeline consumers, users covered under the Incremental Consumption Package, and prepaid consumers. The same Rs0.5194 per kWh quarterly adjustment will also be imposed on K-Electric consumers during the three-month recovery period.
The decision follows quarterly adjustment requests of around Rs33 billion from distribution companies (DISCOs). However, NEPRA calculated a significantly lower adjustment of approximately Rs12 billion and decided to retain the three-month recovery period rather than spreading the impact over four months.
NEPRA has directed all DISCOs to submit quarterly adjustment requests promptly after each quarter. The companies must also provide category-wise data on changes in electricity sales, comparing reference and actual sales with the corresponding period of the previous year.
For industrial consumers, the data must be reported separately for B1, B2, B3 and B4 categories. NEPRA further instructed that future hearings include analysis of sales and maximum demand indicator variations and their impact on quarterly adjustments to improve transparency and understanding of the calculations.
